The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government-supported initiative designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for eligible Canadians. This program provides financial assistance to families and people who might otherwise face barriers to getting the dental treatments they need.
The CDCP covers a portion of the cost of dental exams, cleanings, and other services for qualifying Canadians.

Who Is Eligible for the CDCP?
The CDCP is designed to support Canadians who:
- Have a household income under $90,000
- Do not have access to any other dental insurance
- Have filed their federal tax returns in Canada
To qualify, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria and provide the necessary documentation to the Government of Canada.

What Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan Cover?
The CDCP covers a portion of the cost for a wide range of essential dental services when they are recommended by your dentist. These include, but are not limited to:
- Routine dental exams
- Professional cleanings
- Dental X-rays
- Preventive treatments such as fluoride applications and sealants
- Major restorative procedures, including dentures, crowns, and certain oral surgery
- Basic restorative care, including dental fillings
- Emergency dental procedures
- Sedation dentistry
- Periodontal services
- Root canal therapy
The goal of the program is to provide comprehensive care to maintain and improve your oral health. It’s not intended to provide cosmetic dentistry services.

How Much Do Dental Services Cost Under the CDCP?
The CDCP reimburses your dentist for a portion of the cost of your treatment. We can discuss the estimated cost of your dental treatment before your appointment.
You may need to pay a portion of the fee, depending on your family income and the fee for the service, as follows:
- Under $70,000: CDCP will cover 100% of the cost at the established fee.
- Between $70,000 and $79,999: CDCP will cover 60% of eligible costs, and you will cover 40%.
- Between $80,000 and $89,999: CDCP will cover 40% of eligible costs, and you will cover 60%.
The cost covered by the CDCP fees may not be the same as what we charge. You may have to pay fees in addition to the potential co-payment if:
You and your dentist agree to services that the CDCP doesn’t cover, such as teeth whitening
The cost of your services is more than what the CDCP will reimburse
